Hello

I am after a bit of advice as I have searched the internet but can't find anything. I currently have 4 hens just now which are hybrids- a blue haze, speckledy, copper black and columbine. I would love to hatch some chicks and was thinking about purchasing some fertile eggs and getting one of my hens to sit on them and hatch them. Would any of my chickens be suitable for this?

First you need a hen to go broody, and sit on eggs, puff up, and peck and act very crabby when you go near her. After she has been broody for a few days, and seems comitted to the nest then swap out what she is sitting on for fertile eggs. Any broody/breed can hatch out eggs. Sometimes they will quit and sometimes they will be poor mom, and harm, or allow others to harm there young, but I have been successful with various breeds. Many breeds have had broodyness breed out of them.
