hatchling or not

i felt movement in the hens egg 6 days ago & it still hasn't hatched-its been over 21 days now, does that mean its dead

Glad you could join the flock! If your hen is still sitting I would leave them be for now and try not to disturb her. Can you be sure it's past day 21? 21 days is only a guide line and nothing is set in stone for chicks hatching. As you are using a broody hen she knows best and if the egg or eggs are unviable she should leave the nest if nothing hatches. If it gets way past 21 days and she is still sitting but nothing has hatched you could candle the egg to check for any movement in it. I would do this at night when it's dark as this should not disturb your hen too much. Drop by the incubating and hatching section of the forum for further help. Here is the link >
