Hattie update.. Need some advice please!

Ok so I went to give Hattie an epsom salt soak today and noticed a black scab on the back of her toe.

I picked it as advised and only blood came out.. no pus. (The swelling is around the ankle more than the toes)

I gave her a bath, soaked her foot in iodine and antibiotic spray and bandaged it up.. She's resting ina coop now,

She hasn't laid any eggs for a week now.. Is this normal behaviour giving the infection, anti biotics and stress?

EDIT:
Also, just reading up and someone mentioned Penicillin G may work on Hattie. Has anyone had any experience injecting into a duck? I am diabetic so used to giving injections! haha

You are working very hard on your little's behalf, yay!

I have a few thoughts - and I don't mean to be critical, so I just want to share them, and perhaps someone with more veterinary experience can respond.

I would take the bandage off - I know there is a concern about the open wound, but I am more concerned that air get to the wound. And in this case I would get an antibiotic cream, not ointment, because the ointment blocks air.

Also, with iodine, I have read that just a few drops is best. The soaking in it may be too much of a good thing.

Yes, this stress will interfere with egg-laying.

oooh thank you so much .. I really appreciate any advice I can get!

I will take the bandage off tomorrow morning and let it breathe!
I was putting a lot of iodine too so I will only put a few drops on.

Thank you.. she means the world to me. I hope she makes it. :( I just don't know what else I can do for her!

Guys!! We have a little improvement.. I am so happy.

Tomorrow is her last day on antibiotics.. I have been putting iodine on her foot and a scab has formed on her toe.

I picked it off and managed to get some pus out... I sprayed it and it formed again over two days.. I just picked it again and managed to get a bit more out!

The infection is still in her ankle but I hoping it will find itself to her toe so I can drain the rest out?
She is able to put some weight on it now.
I have carried on with Iodine and put her in a dry, clean crate.

Fingers crossed!!

p.s Happy Easter!!!

Good to hear!! Hope she continues to improve, you've certainly been working hard enough at it. :)

Thank you!!
I feel drained after these past two weeks. I just want to see her well again.

You have all been so helpful! :)
