Havahart trap question

In some areas the raccoons are active during the day because they have learned there is more food & less danger at that time. It doesn't necessarily mean it's a diseased or dangerous animal. Perhaps you should try to find out what is attracting this raccoon to your place during the day, and eliminate it, whether it's pet food or garbage or something. I don't know if a raccoon would try to grab a chicken during the day, or if it even could while the chickens were awake & alert.

My chickens often get themselves caught inside my live traps no matter what is used as bait. They're just curious & like to explore small spaces. So far no one has gotten hurt, but I am concerned that one day there will be another chicken following the first one into the trap, and when it trips the lever the second one will get whacked by the closing door.
