hey guys my baby chicks are going into the chicken coop tonight and was wondering can my 9 week old chicks eat layers mash or will that harm them?

thanks guys please answer soon

cheers em

No. The extra calcium in it will damage their organs, possibly kill them.

But your layers can eat starter or grower or flock raiser, anything but layer. Just offer oyster shell in a separate container. The young ones will eat little if any of the oyster shell.

If you are in a bind, you can get away with feeding them layer for a day or two, til you get to the market.
