Do any of you know if you can use the brown eggs to dye for Easter eggs? I have about 30 eggs right now and thought we could use them, but I have never tried it before. Thanks!

The colors are not as bright. They are more jewel tones. I like to leave them in the dye longer.
This year I used the silk dye method. I am having so much fun I ran out of brown eggs and BOUGHT EGGS.
See what you think.

The purple is a brown egg. You see what I mean about jewel tones.

Wow, those are neat! How do you do the silk dye! I am so happy we can use the eggs! Next year if we have the green eggs, we may not have to dye them! LOL Thanks!

It is very simple. And less mess than traditional dye. I pick up 100% silk at thrift stores and yard sales. Must be 100% silk. The slick works best (no texture) and bold colors. But the ugliest ties or silk blouse make the nicest eggs.

You simply wrap the Raw egg in a silk square, then wrap in a cotton square ( old sheets work nicely). Place them in a pan with 1/2 cup of vinegar and boil for 20 min. Allow them to cool. It might work better if you allow them to dry before unwraping them but like the tootsie roll center in a tootsie roll pop, the world may never know. I can't wait that long.

Okay, we dyed our eggs, they turned out neat, thanks! Now yet another question------can we feed the egg shells that are dyed to the chickens? Or will it hurt them? I gave some undyed eggshells to them today--they loved it--the older one and the chicks.
