This is one of my 2 day old Delaware/Barred Rock chicks. Do you suppose such a pronounced comb at such an early age may suggest it's a cockerel? The other D/BR chick has virtually no comb yet at all.

When you cross a barred with a non-barred sex-linked chicks result. I THINK (not sure though!) barred chicks in such a cross are female and nonbarred are male. Does it have a white patch on the back of it's head? That means it's barred.

....though I could be totally wrong.

Delawares carry, and pass along, the barred gene, so there's no sex linkage. In theory, the basics of BR sexing should apply -- big spot/more silvery than black = cockerel. This guy guy is definitely lighter color than the other, but the head spots are similar.

What appears to be gold is actually just skin where the down came off with the dried membrane.
