Hi Everyone!
I've been reading all the posts here for a couple of days and decided to join. All of you are so friendly and helpful. Let me give a little back ground here. I apologize ahead of time, for being long winded.
The end of April my husband brought home over 50 quail eggs that he got from one of his customers (he's an auto mechanic so that was weird). Anyway, I homeschool my children and we thought that would be educational and fun for all of us to set up an incubator and hatch some little babies. Well it takes about 21-23 days before they hatch. I was so excited when I heard peeping in the incubator on Mother's Day morning!! You can see one of them in my picture next to my username. Let me tell you, it was real difficult to focus on what the pastor was saying in church that morning. All I could think about was those new chicks at home (5 of them) and wondering if any more had hatched and how were they getting along. I was the first one in the door when we got home and I checked on them and there were two more! Three more hatched later that afternoon but they died shortly after that. I candled the remaining eggs the next day and saw that almost all of them were nearly clear. So I knew they weren't ever going to make it. I had to throw them away. It was pretty sad. Anyway, the bobwhite quail are now almost 3 weeks old and getting bigger my the minute! My husband brought home more eggs (I told him that's it. No more please) I have 24 eggs in the incubator right now. They're due to hatch on the 12th of June. Well this has given me the desire to get some chickens. I didn't want to hatch them out though. That is too stressful (I hate the wait). So I ordered 12 "chickas" as I've been calling them (hopefully they don't mess up and throw in any roosters) from my feed store. Six Rhode Island Reds and six Barred Plymouth Rocks. I expected them to arrive today but the feed store called and said that they actually won't be here till monday or tuesday because of the recent holiday slowing mail up and Sunnyside Hatchery out of Beaver Dam, WI said they didn't have enough RIR to send me. I was so bummed!! I paced around the house and ranted and raved for a while. I told my friend today that it feels like I'm pregnant again and counting down the days till my due date and getting upset when I go over my due date and the baby isn't born yet! I know, ridiculous. But I know you all understand. My friend laughed at me and called me a crazy farm girl! So when my babies FINALLY arrive I will post pictures!
