Have you ever been in the coop after dark???

I've got a coop of over 15 roosters, and the most sound they make at night when I visit are little trilling sounds.

I always assumed when they started trilling and cooing (?) when on the roost, it was in response to our presence in the coop and that otherwise, all would be quiet.

I do enjoy it; such sweet sounds. It seems that if I talk very softly to them, they talk back.

I would like to have a recording of it to fall asleep to at night. Kinda like one of those "sounds of nature" CDs.

hahah i love walking in at night the hens are "mumbling and grumbling" and my quial make light little noises , and my pigeons coo it is pretty cute

I listen carefully at night, from a distance. And if I hear contented sounds or nothing, I go to bed. If I hear squawks? I head right out, gun in hand. Usually it's a squabble over roost space, but last year it was a possum being rude. He got shot.

Picture an old lady, in sneakers and a nightgown, huge gun in one hand, flashlight in the other! I am soooooo glad the neighbors can't see the coops!
