Hi everyone, my barred rock had some drops of blood on the egg she laid this morning. She is a very good layer with extra large eggs pretty much daily. She hasn't had this happen before. It might be nothing, just a small blood vessel and this may happen occasionally, but I want to check with the group to see if this should be a concern. Please let me know

In my opinion, it’s best to watch her closely for any behavioral changes, such as eating less or drinking more, and see whether she lays eggs without blood or if the issue continues. I’m not too worried about it, but it’s still important to keep an eye on her.

This sounds like your typical blood spot. Safe to eat, and caused by when the ovary releases the yolk into the rest of the tract. Sometimes, a vein gets split on the ovary when releasing the yolk, so it can result in blood in the egg. Not a concern at all unless she might be bleeding a lot (to the point the entire egg is dark red) or a part of the ovary comes with the yolk.
