Have you ever crushed SMZ-TMP pills for your Guineas?

My local vet clinic no longer makes the liquid we used to get - so I can get pills from the regular pharmacy but the bird dose of 1/32 of a pill.

I can put 32 cc water in a cup and crush and swirl one in and immediately get 1 cc out - but it is a risk to overdose if too much of the pill gets into the 1 cc dose I draw out.

Any vets or vet assistants here who could give input? Anyone else? Any tips appreciated. Trying to help my Milton, not kill him.

I recommend that you dissolve the whole pill in a known quantity of distilled water and then make your calculations and dilutions from there.

Pills are made mostly of filler material. You have no way of knowing if the medicinal part is equally distributed through the crushed part. In solution that has been well dissolved and "stirred", you have a much better chance of the medicine being equally distributed throughout.
