Next time I see her or here her talking about her chickens, I will correct her and surely introduce her here!

Oh yes, I'm bad... I've been known to get right up in the middle of other folk's conversations if they have misconceptions about chickens. I always try to be friendly and not come across as a snooty know it all (I definitely do NOT know it all lol).
And I tell everyone about BYC.
The only time anybody ever seems annoyed is if I correct the kids working at the feed store. They hate that![]()
dd... you are awesome!!When I hear folks talking on and on and on and making no sense (about, dogs, chickens, cage birds etc.) After a while I can't help it and a free ranging "HA!" comes out loudly from somewhere (can't be ME!) They pause and give me a dirty look. I don't care, somethings you just can't control.![]()

I ran into a problem like this last weekend. Someone asked me if I ever put rainwater from our rain barrel out for the chickens. When I told them no since it is not potable they said: I dont think that would be an issue. They're designed for that sort of thing. Just like any wild animalWhen I hear folks talking on and on and on and making no sense (about, dogs, chickens, cage birds etc.) After a while I can't help it and a free ranging "HA!" comes out loudly from somewhere (can't be ME!) My chickens drink from our creek, and ducks, even when it rains.I ran into a problem like this last weekend. Someone asked me if I ever put rainwater from our rain barrel out for the chickens. I couldnt help it. It fell out of me like word vomit:
NOTHING IS DESIGNED TO DRINK UNCLEAN WATER.![]()
We have filtered well water so no city water. The fact of the matter is that water that is not filtered can contain a multitude of parasitic organisms. Our rain barrel has algae, dirt and silt in the bottom of it and I would not recommend that anyone drink it without filtering and boiling it first. It is used exclusively for watering our garden and nothing else.then tell me, why do my dogs walk past their water dish and drink out of the toilet ?
rainwater is not undrinkable.. Probably cleaner than what you get out of a city faucet.
