So I went down to feed the girls this evening and no sooner than I crawled into the run of the coop and filled the second feeder, it started to pour!! I'm not talking about a sprinkle or a shower that gets steady and then turns into a downpour...I'm talking about the sky literally opening up! I was hunched over under the tarp in the run of the coop (it is only 4ft tall). I'm standing there with my hands on my knees (think a la Mickey Mouse Club) and I have nine chickens staring at me. They were thinking, "Okaaaaayyyyy...we have our food. You can go now....any minute now....why is she still in here?????"

So it poured for about 15 minutes and I am hunched over in the pen. I kept thinking that DBF who was up in the house would come to my rescue...or not. The rain lessened for a minute and I made the quick decision to run for it. I had just spent $55 on my hair at the salon and I didn't want to ruin it in the rain so I stripped off my shirt and ran in a bra and boxer shorts from my chickens to my basement door holding my shirt over my head. When I walked in the basement. dbf and dd are laying in the jump castle laughing at me. My dd who is almost 2 said, "Mommy wet!"

There have been SO MANY really funny stories of people getting stuck in the coop. One I remember so well is a member that got stuck in the hen house and had to squueze through the pop door.

Tooo funny!

:raises hand: Hi, I'm Soccer Mom and I've been trapped in my duck house.

Right after my husband installed the new windows, I went in and closed the door. He hadn't installed the latch release yet. I had to break out one of his lovely new windows, reach around, and manually open the latch. (And I'm short. Let me tell you, I was afraid I would still be there when he got home from work.) Then I had to call him and tell him what I had done.

I have only been stuck in the coop because our roo wouldn't let me out. A broom to the rear end took care of that!

My boys, though, have been stuck in the run. They went out to take care of the chicken chores and were gone for a lonnnnngggg time. But when I looked out the window everything looked locked up and secure, so I thought they had gone out in the woods somewhere. A while later my oldest comes into the house absolutely filthy! He crawled through the little chicken door in the dirt to get out. The door to the run had slammed shut in the wind and the latch was stuck up instead of hanging down. When it slammed, the latch fell, right into the hole. I felt bad because they were out there a good hour, yelling for me!

I understand the getting stuck because of the rooster! But my main mishap in the chicken coop is standing up. OUCH! The roof is only five feet high. MAN THAT HURTS!!!

oh honey you werent STUCK in the coop - you chose to be in the coop to avoid the rain!
;-)

me?

i was STUCK in the coop - i cleverly had a sliding lock hung up and down instead of side to side...and it slid closed while i was in there.

me standing there like an idiot trying to calculate when hubby gets home... a good 4 hrs. dang. the dogs are good but they couldnt figure out "dog1 stand on dog2's shoulders and slide the thingy up so i can get out." dogs standing there looking at me like i'm an idiot.

dang

finally had to twist the hinges of the door to shimmy out.

and then there was the time i got stuck in the meat chicken tractor.....

Ha ha ha ! To Funny ! What we'll do to save our hair !

I got caught in the coop for a short while ...I was in the coop cleaning up when my 11 yr old daughter came by to check out what I was doing and when she left she "out of Habit" locked the wood/screened door of the inside coop area .......and she then went around to the frontyard of the house ...I had to wait about 5 minutes or so and then she heard me calling and came running ...we laughed....

Nope, can't say as I've ever gotten stuck in the coop...the green house on the other hand is another matter! The door is an old glass and bug screen type of door that we salvaged from the next door neighbors junk heap as they remodeled their home. It has a nasty habit of jumping its frame in the upper right hand corner and is a real bee with an itch to open if you're on the inside.

I had it stick on me one day this last spring while I was inside doing the morning watering and checking of the sprouting progress. Luckily for me, I had my cell phone on me. Called hubby up at the house and he came down and let me out, laughing the entire time at the look of panic on my face! I had NO desire to spend the entire day in the green house, much as I love my time in there. After about 10:00 it can get uncomfortably hot in there for humans!

Oh yes, we have a swing-down wooden bar on the outside of our coop door that keeps it closed. MY DH was always telling me to swing it past vertical when I went in, so it wouldn't come back down on me. Here's me: "Yeah, whatever."

So of course it swung down one day when I was in there with the chicks. He was already at work, I was due at work shortly. I had to open a perfectly good salvaged window and kick out the screen to get out.

Haven't heard the end of it yet. The window frame has never been the same either.
