When DH was a kid he and his sibs used to "hypnotize" their chickens. They tell stories of getting in trouble for getting the chickens out one by one and hypnotizing them until the chickens were lying "knocked out" all over the yard.

So tonight we hypnotized one of our chickens, and even a chick! It is funny I must say.

Yes, in tech school, they taught us how to do it, to make them more relaxed. Haven't really tried it with my own, though.

OH YEA. Great fun, but you have to have the right chicken.

Not all of them will do the sleep thing or the hypno thing.

Boy, a life is needed here ey ?

How do you hypnotize a chicken? DH puts them to sleep by hanging them upside, but hypnotizing them? If I didn't know any better, I'd think it was April 1st.

Well as I kid out on the farm we use to lay the chickens on their backs on our lap and then after they relaxed their heads would hang down. This always produced a "sleeping chicken" My cousin use to say he hypnotized the chickens.
I think it must have to do with extra blood running to the brain or something along those lines?

I know that was my favorite guilty pleasure as a kid. Rocking them to sleep is what we called it. lol.

Poor chickens. I guess they really dont mind too much, never stopped them from coming to us anyway.

Well you can just turn the chicken over on it's back, then while you are holding it there draw a line on the ground outwards from the point of the beak. Now move your hand off the chicken and it will just lay there for a long time.

OMG I remember when my chicks were younger and I invited my friends over to see them. They knew how to hypnotize a chicken, so we did that for quite a while. XD

You know what i've always wondered, is if anyone else carries their chickens by their legs, upside down. Thats how I grew up on the farm moving chickens, or if we had to wrangle them up for some reason. And I still carry the ladies like that today, if I have to carry more than two and cant keep them all upright.

I guess it got me thinking about it because a neighbor saw me and freaked the holy hell out. Thought I was so cruel. They dont seem to mind it a bit, they still try to follow me when I put them down and walk away, and they dont run from me when I grab them up.

Totally random thought, but the sleeping chicken thing reminded me of it, because apparently, according to some people, even that is cruel... LOL
