I gave my broody silkie some eggs to hatch a few months ago. She raised them for about 8 weeks or so (I let her keep 2 of them) then 'weaned' them and went back to the main coop (though the chicks prefer to sleep in the ark that I keep for broodies). About a week or two later, she went broody again in the ark. The "chicks" (if you can call them that at this point) were thrilled to have mom back in the ark with them and someone to sleep with. Shortly after, momma silkie came out and began treating her old chicks like they were new baby chicks. She is back to feeding them, finding food for them, teaching them, etc. The "babies" are thrilled.
Just wondering how unusual this is. I remember reading here once how someone's broody got off the nest (there were no eggs) and began to mother invisible chicks.
