farmerlor I guess that's a way to save money. They buy them as cute little chicks, feed them until their grown, and then bring them back to you when they start laying eggs.

Sounds like a new business opportunity. You could call it "Lease a chick". First 6 months free, then by the 7th month they will bring them back.

I almost forgot. I just got back from Lowes and they had a book on raising Chickens.

I just think it is so funny that Home Depot and Lowes have books on raising chickens, but I guess if you're gonna raise chickens you gotta build a coup, so I guess it makes sense.

At the Real Estate office where I work, at our meeting Tuesday morning, one of the agents was telling us about her new listing out of town, where it has just a dab over 8 acres, but the house and about an acre or so plus one of the big machine sheds are within city limits, BUT the rest of the land behind that is considered agriculture. I made the remark that she needed to put in her remarks (that the clients see on realtor.com, Trulia, or one of the many real estate sites), about this because more and more people are beginning to see that chickens are the pet of the future, so to speak, and it might tempt someone who wasn't before because they didn't know they could have actual livestock on the back 6+ acres. She was floored, never once gave it a thought. The house is spectacular, huge two story, sorta cape cod and Victorian together . . . for $345,000. See me if you would like to take a look!!!!

Gosh, that sounds great! I would love to move somewhere like that, but due to the economy I'm sorta stuck where I'm at. Kinda funny since you mentioned real estate that where I work they have an apartment complex that is called the "Chicken Ranch Apt's." because it was build on chicken ranch property. Also, just to add the city does allow for 25 chickens per residence but currently no one has any.

When I mention to patients that I have chickens, I either get an "OMG are you crazy!" with a disgusted look on their faces - or an intense curiosity that says, "Tell me more!" - and I always comply!
