I have six silkie chicks and just got in some orpingtons. They are all a few weeks old. Have you ever noticed them forming distinct family groups? The silkies and orps are in the same brooder, but they stick to their own breed groups to hang out and snooze and feed. There is very little interaction between them. I think it is fascinating...
 
I call my chickens racist straigh up no sugar-coating it. I have a batch that are 10 mo old and all the Aussies STILL stick together and all the Sussex hang out etc etc etc. I'm excited to see how it pans out with the Cochins and BCMs that I am mixing in 3 days.
 
hi...i have chix and dux and bantys all in the same brooder...they mix it up all the time

when i took this pic we didnt have the bantys yet...but they pile on top or sneak in between the bigger ones...lol
