Have you stopped eating duck?

Luckily for me I never liked the taste, so it's never been an issue.

Now my chickens . . . I love them as much, if not more, than my dogs. Unfortunately for them they are the tastiest things in the universe. The chickens, not the dogs . . . not that I'd know. Maybe they are?.

Here if it's kept as a breeder it may be named and kept off the menu. Offspring are generally destined for orange sauce. Tomorrow is enchladas made from Senior Cocky, our rooster who got too cocky. That being said, rabbit is off the menu, we've had 2 house bunnies for years, and I can't see breeding meat rabbits.

If you are going to wimp out and still want to eat duck. Trade your surplus pets with another grower that way you can be eating "ducky dear" while you wonder how your pets are doing on their 'new home' (someone's freezer)

If i had a surplus of drakes, I would eat them. As it is all I have are females, so they are saved for egg laying purposes. And as for pets versus livestock, Some of my birds are named, some not. I don't name food. And I've already picked out 6 of my excess roosters to go off to freezer camp next week.

oh man i WISH i could START eating our ducks. wouldnt you know it.. we raised oh 23 ducklings this summer and my hubby (now off work) was assigned to feed/water/lock them up at nite.

so my big old redneck, white tshirt, aint afraid to work, truck drivin', dog ownin', gun totin', beer drinkin', changes his own oil, take your hat off for the pledge of alliance tough guy announces that there is NO WAY he can be the axe man on the ducks! he's gone all soft and he loves them now.

WHAT ARE YOU NUTS!?!?!?!??!?

so we ended up finding home for the ducklings. me shocked, saddened, dismayed....goodbye roast duck, duck in plum sauce, cassolet, duck sausage, duck ala orange, pan fried duck, ducks stir fry, country fried duck, duck salad........i quietly put away my copy of le cordon bleu's cookbook....

he had no problem doin in my favorite little rooster! sheesh! btw, that rooster was the star of some mighty fine chicken n noodles.

if that dont beat all i just dont know what does. and no i'm on 'guts' not on the axe. normally we're a pretty good team as long as we dont have to switch jobs.

drat.
