Have your hens ever done this before? (pics)

Yes, our hens do that alot.

One way I can get them to go to a different nesting box is by putting an egg in each one so that each hen gets their own egg to lay on. That is the only reason they wait in line, just so they can sit on the egg!

Your girls are much more patient than mine. My girls won't wait in line - they get pushy!

That is the same with our hens when they get to impatient too wait in line!!

I have 10 nestboxes for the 8 or so hens that I have and they all insist on laying in the same 2 boxes. I have even had them lay in one of the coveted boxes even though another hen had occupied it after going broody. They would just shove themselves into the box with her - despite her angry screeching.

Lately mine have been getting better. I have a Ca White Leghorn that takes FOREVER in "THE" box and so some just get impatient and lay in other boxes.

I have 3 covered boxes in different places out in the yard ( the girls free range daily), so although the 1 large box in the coop still tends to be the favorite. . . they are facinated with the outside boxes, and have, so far, used 2 of them, as well as the coop box. When 1 girls is laying, however, she usually has a audience. . . everybody wants to watch. I know this is not a prelude to their wanting to use the box, as frequently, the others have already laid. . . .

What's annoying is when one is broody and takes a food/water break from the nest and another hen steals it!

hahamine do it all the time! i have a little 5 gallon bucket attached to a perch and they all want to use that one even though there are 2 other nests boxes, those nestboxes are even higher than the 5 gallon bucket!
