monday I picked up 10,1month old barn yard mix chicks. Lady was weird and sketchy. What ever, each their own. She greeted me with them in a box at the closed gate and rushed me off. I get them home and none of the chicks can walk with out falling over. Some don't even try to move.labored breathing in a couple. All can kick their legs, flap their wings and grasp with their toes. I called her immediately, she doesn't argue or want them back but gives me my money back. Claims they just got too hot.
I gave them a chunk of water melon to try and perk them up. Two got much better with in an hour or so. I gave them medicated chick starter, a dose of corrid and a vitamin/electrolyte pack in the water and let em be for the night.
Day two, five show no signs of anything having been wrong. 2 seem to be some what better and trying to get around, eating drinking, but not right. And three are still in the same shape as before but seem to be trying to fight. What on earth am I fighting here!? Could she be right that they just got hot?

Did you find out what was wrong with your chicks? I have a chicken that has the same problem. She will snap out of it for a week then go right back to not being able to pick herself up.

I haven't. It's so strange. One I thought wouldn't make the night, completely fine today. My hands are totally in the air. I guess one day at a time is all we can do. Sorry about you chicken. That's strange too

Update: day three
I lost 2 during the night and 2 more by this afternoon
2 seem a little unsteady yet. But run, hop, eat, drink and preen themselves. 4 seem perfectly normal.

Update: for those that may read this and wonder what the deal was. I believe it was coccidiosis. From speaking to a couple veterinarians, if my chicks were stumbling and falling over due to mareks, which one symptom is paralysis and causes chicks to stumble, fall over and be unable to stand, the chicks would also be unable to kick and grasp. Which all my chicks could kick and grasp.
The six surviving chicks are all perfectly fine now after five days of corid.

Ugh! I don't get why people try to sell sick chickens. I bet she knew there was something wrong with them from the get go. Rehoming for purposes of rehabilitation (with full disclosure) is one thing, but charging money for them is just awful! You did good nursing them back to health, even if you lost a few!

Thank you! I tried so hard and was really bummed I lost any! I really think she knew they were sick too! That's why she didn't want em back. I still tried to help her. Offers her medicine and even my time to help her clean up and administer the corid to the water. She declined
