I have two rhode island red hens. They went from usually both laying an egg a day to ive only had one egg from them in two months. My yard isnt huge and i dont think they are hiding them in a different spot. At least i cant find any eggs anywhere. They have always laid them in their nesting box. Do tgey change where they lay usually. They free roam in my yard. I never close their coop they go in and out on their own and they look healthy so they dont seem stressed. Do chickens just stop laying eggs when they get older. Ive had them for two years but my uncle had them before me. I dont know how long he had them

Short days is the problem. Now that winter solstice is passed, they will likely start laying again in the next month or so.
The older they get, the fewer they lay but that is mostly due to a longer winter break.
I have a 7 year old hen that takes a break starting in September but then starts back up in January. She's laid 5 so far this year. Last year she laid about 5 a week from January to September.
The moral is, don't give up on old hens till spring is in full swing.
