Haven't posted in a while...few questions for ya!

As long as you pick the eggs up everyday, it would take close inspection for someone to see that its fertile. You will see a small bullseye in the yolk, thats it. No other difference

My "adopted" three year old flock never had nest boxes, they layed on the floor of the coop. As I slowly improve their enviroment I put in 6 nest boxes. Since I'm changing them over from straw to shavings, I put straw in a few and shavings in the rest. I also added a golf ball to two nests, but not all. Finally, they are using the nests!!! But not the ones with the balls! They all seem to like the same nest - bottom right. We have 6 boxes, 3 over 3, 6" off the floor, but really only a couple inches when you consider the deep shavings. Whatever makes them happy works for me.
