Hello all ~
An update from this morning on my avatar chicken ~ she is walking, she is standing up. Her left side is weak and she seems sore but I think she'll be ok given some time.
Now, my next delima. I was just outside checking on all the critters for the final time before bed. Lil bit (that's what we're calling her) was under her heat lamp but as she saw me tending the rabbits she got up and walked over to the other side of her cage to watch me. As she was moving I realized her butt looks really, really gooped up. She's got two hugs wads of what I'm assuming are dried up poop stuck to her. I know when our RIR's were babies we checked them every day to make sure they didn't get stopped up. But this chicken - as tiny as she is - is about 6 months old. Can that still happen to them at this age? I was thinking on waiting till morning to clean her up because I know I'll probably have to use some water and I didn't want her to go back out wet and after the day she's had I thought she might need a night's rest before being messed with again.
I'm assuming this is poop and not something else. Could it be an egg? Honestly, if this chicken lays eggs they would have to be about the size of a jelly bean and that's about the size of this icky thing sticking out of her/on her - I'm not sure which. Thoughts? Opinions? Advice?
I've only had this chicken for 48 hours and I've had more drama with her than with the whole rest of my flock combined. Poor Lil bit.
