I just hatched a gosling a few hours ago and I’ve run into a few issues with it...

The first issue is that when it came out it had a bulge at the end of it and when I did some research on it, it said that it was either I absorbed yolk or a herniated umbilical cord. I believe based on pictures that it’s unabsorbed yolk. I wrapped the baby in warm, wet paper towels and allowed it to sit hoping that it will finish absorbing. But if anybody has any suggestions on what else I could do I would take any suggestions!!!

The second issue is that one of its legs seems to be stuck in the fetal position. It’s hunched up on the side of its body and it won’t stretch out. I am getting vitamins for it to see if that will help but I can’t find any information about this situation! I really have no idea what is going on with it or how to fix it and the bird can’t stand up at all

Also, with its other leg, it seems as though it’s toes are curled. I read about a few ways I can make a “shoe” to hopefully straighten it out. But again, if anybody has any suggestions, I would gladly take anything!!!

The bird seems like its strong and it's chirping like there's no tomorrow! It's alive for right now, but I really don't want this bird to die.

I’m sorry it’s so long! But I would be so grateful if you’d take the time to read it!!! This is my first time having geese or hatching anything and I wasn’t even planning for it! The egg was accidentally delivered to my house in a shipment of mulch.
Thank you so much!

Did you help this gosling hatch? Take the wet paper towel off and use dry paper towels place the gosling in a small bowl and keep it in the incubator till the sac is completely absorbed. Once the yolk is absorbed then post pics of the legs and feet. Right now just give it time to get over hatching it can take 24 hrs. Don’t off food or water yet either. You found an egg in some mulch amazing. So most likely a Canada gosling?

Yes I did help it hatch. It externally pipped and then made no progress zipping for almost 48 hours. It turns out that it was a “sticky chick” and was unable to turn inside of the egg. The membrane was very dry and turning dark yellow and brown and the gosling was becoming glued to the egg. We were able to help it hatch using warm water and coconut oil to keep it moist and carefully peeling pieces of egg off until it pushed itself out.

I have already tried to give it food and water... what could happen since I already have?

I don’t really know what kind of goose it is! I don’t believe it is a Canada goose because the goose is all yellow and has an orange/pink beak.
Here’s a picture of it! If you know what it might be I would really like to know what it is as well :)

Did it eat and drink? Sometimes when first hatched and they aren’t holding their heads up good they may not swallow real good yet. What part of the country are you in?

It has been doing surprisingly good with eating and drinking! The mulch came from a Yard Works about 20-30 mins from my house.
