I have to agree with Katy. We had a RIR chick that was a family pet, everyone handled him and he seemed to like it. When he was about a year old we got him a half dozen hens and from then on you had to carry a big stick with you to get into the pen to feed everyone. He was vicious! We didn't know if it was because he had hens to 'protect' or what. The pen was almost 1/4 acre, so he wasn't crowded or anything, just him, his hens, a goat and some smaller pens with pheasant & quail.
