I have my spring order in to Welp's Hatchery. I have some Ameraucaunas (EE actually) Dark and Buff Brahmas, Buff and Blue Cochins, Salmon Favorelles, Blue Wyandottes, and 1 single Surama,

coming. I ordered (and was completely excited about) some Buff Laced Polish, SL Polish, and White Crested Blues. I got an email back saying the crested breeds hatch seperately then my others, so if I wanted them, I would need a seperate order of 25

I've been heehawing this around in my head, and finally wrote back to go ahead with my "normal" order, but leave off the Cresteds for now. I can always email back to put them on the order, I think they would just come a day or so later.

I was looking around to see if anyone else had those breeds (and a smaller minimum order) I want to say it was Ideal that did...but they didn't have the WC Blue's. I also really really really want some BLR Wyandottes. So I thought maybe I could do a order with someone who has my cresteds, plus the BLRW's. I don't know if I'm going to run into the same hatch day problem or not.

I would love to do the egg thing, for the BLRW's, but I do not have an incubator as of now. My original order is $100, and if I did the cresteds, it would be another $67. I could go smaller numbers with one of the other hatcheries-that do that, but they usually have a small box fee from what I've read, as well as shipping (Welp's shipping is included) This is probably clear as mud, and I'm sorry it got so long, but I'm really stressing over this decision for some reason, lol!

What Would You Do?

If it were me, I'd hold out a bit. Have you searched the site for any breeders? I ordered my batch from Meyers and of course if not ordering 25 they add a big fee onto it.
If you hold out, maybe if some don't make it, you're new order would be up to 25 anyway? Kind of a bad thought, but gosh, there is usually loss.

Dont you just love looking through the catalogues and pondering what you should order?! It's such an agonizing decision for me it's like I am buying my first home...lol;) Fun, fun, fun....enjoy deciding!

I totally agree ellie

I was so excited with my McMurray catalog, I don't think I moved from room to room in the house without it. Now I just got this year's catalog from Welps (who I ordered from) and now I keep looking through that one...even though I already ordered

I know someone on this site has pretty good BLRW , and having been a breeder of that breed, I am very critical, but I know they have posted pictures and a rooster with good body style and comb (hard to get roosters with that heart shaped body style, most have to flat of chest and to long of back). The also posted pictures of properly feathered hens ( I have never seen a BLRW hen with the proper heart shaped body, very hard to fine in the laced varieties)

I am sorry I cant remember her or his name, maybe they will answer this post.

Thank you Pipermark, hopefully they will respond/maybe have chicks available..

Thanks Lilpeeps, I will keep Ideal in mind, especially for my Polish; and maybe I can get some BLRW chicks from someone here
