We have recently rescued 6 chicks and mother hen from the wild (they must have escaped from somewhere, but no one seems to be claiming responsibility).

We already have 5 Warren hens, 2 what we think are Orpington hens, and two White Silkie chicks (as yet unsexed)

We have researched on the web for images of chicks, and think we have it narrowed down to either Wyandotte (gold laced) or pekin. Mother is smaller than our warrens, and a little lighter. The chicks are black with lemon or gold markings (4 of) and yellow, with bits of black seeming to come through (2 of).

If I put a pic up, could someone try and identify them for us?

Can't really see comb clearly- it's either rose or pea. Her body type does seem wyandotte. Guessing either wyandotte from a color project(color does not match any standard colour) or a wyandotte cross/mix. Probably buff wyandotte is part of the mix. But laced crossed with say, a warren would be a reasonable guess- it can produce her color.

Pekin would show feathers on legs, hers is totally clean(right?) so not likely.

If she's the actual mother- the chicks would all be very mixed.

Unfortunately, all of the chicks are looking very male. The lighter colored barred ones are males for sure, the darker ones look male by body, color indicates crossbred.

She looks to me to be a mixed breed hen. She could have wyandotte, from the comb and body type, but she's not gold laced. Looks like she knew a barred rooster!

It is very hard to even guess since Mama looks to have a pea comb or rose comb, looks a bit in coloring like a red sex link, but has black tail feathers like a New Hampshire (which have straight combs.) The white chicks could be male red sex links, but the chicks could all have been layed by different chickens in a nest she layed in too.
