I am hatching for the first time and one of my welsummer eggs has been stopped for over 5 hours. It pipped in the early hours of the morning, it's now past 11pm and it's been stuck with it's beak poking out of a fingernail sized hole for about 5 hours. Should i give it a hand?

If the others don't pip on the 21st day, what should I do? How long should I wait for them. We have 3 hatched already and another is very nearly out.
OH the worry!!

I had a lady tell me she had 9 days late. I've had 6 days late. If it hasn't been pipped more than 24 hours I would leave it. Is your humidity high enough? Don't open when you have a pip or it will dry and get stuck. Use a tube or water dropper through the little holes to add more water to your sponge or the tray if you can. When it is fully out it will flail around and look like it is getting hurt on the other eggs but leave it in there until the next day when it is dry. Also if you take the first one out, you might have a pip you didn't see and dry that one out. They are good for 3 days without food because they have their yolk.

they can stay like that for up to 2 days and still hatch. Just be patient even though its hard.

What you describe sounds like normal hatching to me. Just because some hatch in a couple of hours and one sits there for twice as long, doesn't necessarily mean that one's in trouble. Five hours after pipping is nothing - most of my own chicks take 12-24 hours to hatch oput after pipping. Patience, young apprentice. LOL!
