I have been having some health issues so haven't been online for several months. I had an issue with an owl going right through some crappy netting and killing birds. I had most of my pens covered with some good netting but didn't have enough to cover my end pens. I bought the cheap stuff and thought it would work and it did for awhile until the owl discovered it could plow right through it. I finally bought some good netting and put it up. Cheap isn't always the best. The owl tried again but this time it got stuck. I managed to get it unstuck and into a cage and a wildlife rescue came and got it. No more issues. I had a lot of coyotes coming around too and one broke the wire out of a pen and got all of the birds in it. The next morning I discovered it. I put up motion alarms around the pens and now when the have come around they usually set off an alarm and boy do they run. I have had to do a few edits because my eyesight is failing.

This is the netting I bought to replace the crappy netting with. It's the same as the original good netting I originally put up. I also have electric wires around my coops and pens. Nothing messes with the hot wires.

Holy cow!!! That’s awful!! Glad you caught the owl and scared the coyotes off! That’s terrifying! Yeah I saw the quality of the cheap stuff and immediately switched gears and bought an expensive kind.

Between the alarms and the hot wire predators don't mess around. I do have several game cameras up and do see predators roaming around now and then. A bobcat next to my chick/grow-out coop. I have electric wires around it too and good netting covering the pens.

I’m in southwest Michigan. My parents are both from the traverse city Michigan and we have a family cabin in the Upper peninsula in the Marquette area.

That’s so cool. Thank you. I never ever ever knew my chickens and ducks would become such a huge part of my life when I spontaneously bought some at the feed store, but here we are later after all that’s happened, we had huge water problems at our old place and the house was full of mold and the animals were practically swimming, but now we’ve moved to an amazing place and we’ve expanded our flock even more, and I still want more. I’ve learned a ton, and wouldn’t give them up for anything. Someone who was interested in our old property asked and asked me to sell him my flock but I wouldn’t budge. He wouldn’t stop bugging me about them but I didn’t care. They are truly a part of the family now.
