Wait, do hawks have some kind of lock jaw (or claw) that wouldn't let go?

It is illegal to Kill hawks and definatly not smart to brag and boast or discuss on a public forum.

I just re-read all the posts and didn't see anyone who mentioned that they had killed a hawk. But, I can't imagine its illegal to kill a hawk if necessary to defend oneself--though PROVING that would be difficult ("no really, Your Honor, that hawk was a real killer, I swear").

It was a question asked...NOBODY was bragging about killing one! If everyone spent as much time on BYC reading the posts rather than trying to get a thread locked then maybe regular people could enjoy BYC more! JMHO!

It is legal if you are protecting your livestock. In any event, no one said they'd killed a hawk and that's what SSS is all about anyway.

I re-read the posts as well not one mention of killing a hawk. I also did not get the impression of any "bragging or boasting" either.
Agreed on COUNTRY PARSON comment on defending oneself against a human attack but proving it would be a challenge unless you maybe had obvious signs of trauma on your body like MMPOULTRYFARMS, he definately may win his defense! I'll have to see if I can find info on self defense against birds of prey, there must be something in the law??

Have you had a tetanus shot lately? I second EweSheep on treating those scratches. Hawks grab some pretty unsavory things with those claws.

Sorry for your loss. Good luck.

No, it is still very much illegal to kill a bird of prey even if you are protecting your livestock, unless you successfully received a permit to do so. A family member of mine is plagued by a family of bald eagles who steal trout from the ponds of his trout farm. The DNR has explicitly told him that any retaliation against said bald eagles will win him a hefty fine and jail time, and the permit he applied for will likely not be granted. He loses 5K a year to the eagles. Please don't spout misinformation.

My point was someone asked me if I killed a hawk If i did or didnt I would never brag about it or boast or even ever admit to it on a public forum. I would never harm a hair on his pretty little head. (Trys to push back his devil horns)
