Yesterday my chicken was attacked by a hawk, i didn't notice until i was putting the girls to bed in their coop and i saw that she had a HUGE wound on her back from where the hawk grabbed her. There are no puncture wounds or deep wounds, and there wasnt much blood because the hawk just tore her skin off at the top of her back and around by her tail. Shes also got a pretty bad limp. I have disinfected the area with peroxide and alchohol, as well as put antibiotic ointment on it and bandaged it. The wounds themselves aren't deadly but I'm sure they must be painful. At first i was worried about her dying from infection, but now im more worried about her becoming dehydrated or starving to death. Today i brought the girls some crawdads as a treat, and the other two really enjoyed them but she hardly nibbled at it. I also gave her a little fresh fruit to see if she preffered that and she ate a tiny bit of it then went back inside the coop. After i finished changing her dressings i picked her up and made her drink some water. She wont come out of the coop (which i understand because shes probably traumatized) so im worried that she won't get to eat or drink. Should i bring her into the house for a few days so i can keep a good eye on her? Or should i just baby her every time i go out there and make her eat and drink? Please help if you can. I'm not sure what to do in this situation. Thanks.

Your poor bird! This is just my opinion, and I might be wrong, but if the other chickens are not picking at her or her wound I would leave her with them. Might be less traumatic than bringing her into the house and having to reintroduce her. It might help to put antibiotic cream on the wounds, but make sure you use a kind with NO painkillers.
Good luck, and welcome to the list.
