Impacted crop

Hi, one of my chicks had a full crop this morning. They had no feed at night. He is lethargic and is sleeping a lot. Is this impacted crop. What can I do?

Knowing the age of the chick would help. But chilled coconut oil is the treatment.

How old is your chick and what kind of bedding do you use?

In addition to the recommended coconut oil you can also feed some sand in case you chick ate bedding.

He's nearly 12 weeks, I brought him to the vet, and she gave him a steroid. He also has as a high temperature, and I got injections and an oral dose for him. He drank a lot of electrolytes, and his crop feels normal. I'm really worried as he is very poorly.

How high was his temperature? Chickens do generally have a higher body temperature ranging between 105-107 F.

Have you ever dewormed him?

His was 40 C (105 F), yes, he has been dewormed. He doesn't have lice, and other chicks he is in with have a respiratory infection. They also got injected with a steroid and engemycin. They're all moved out of the coop and into a dog crate. They got dosed for coccidiocis just in case. His eyes are clear, but he's very sleepy.

105F is normal temperature for a chicken which has me thinking it was not a specialised avian vet.

Was a swap taken to determine whether the respiratory infection is viral or bacterial?

Did you get antibiotics for further treatment?

They didn't get swabbed, the vet isn't avian specialised, they get injections for 3 days and a dose for 5 days.

Yes, that is my chick she also came to the vets, she is doing a bit better this morning.
