So, last night I heard a commotion in the bathroom at around 2am so I went in to check on her. She was trying to roost on a low cross piece of the metal shelf that goes over our toilet tank. She had tangled herself behind the toilet and was completely struck. I untangled her and put her back under the basket.

This morning I blocked the back of the toilet and gave her a bucket with a towel to hide in. She certainly doesn't seem to think she is injured. Ha!

Her original name was Brahma girl and her roo is Brahma boy and combined they are "The Brahma Twins", but she has been renamed "Diamond", because clearly she is the made of the toughest stuff on earth.

I came home from work today and she had pooped up a storm and at least half of it was completely normal formed chicken poop. Hooray for more poop!!! Ha ha!!!

She has two more injections of Pen G to go and then she is in for lots and lots or rehab. We are going to set up our large dog crate in the kitchen with a cat carrier (aka nest box) in it and let her at least have the company of human interaction while she recovers enough to go back out in the coop in the crate. I noticed last night when I checked out her wound that her injured wing actually flexes a bit and I am hopeful that if we keep moving it a bit, it won't get completely locked in place.

She does seem to be really stiff and still very cautious about some movements. She tried to shake her feathers and it was only a small twitch before she stopped and she also reached back as if to preen and then seemed to think better of it and stopped before reaching her oil gland. I am guessing her neck is still quite sore and stiff.

She is a rock star in my eyes and will forever be one of my favorite hens.

So glad to hear she is doing well. Have you noticed any leaking of the crop? How is it doing? Should be just about closed up enough for a little larger feedings. Was the hole very large or were you not able to see it?
I'm surprised she would try to jump up and roost in the middle of the night. Chickens don't usually move in the dark. Glad she didn't hurt herself. With that injured wing it's going to be difficult for her to get up on a roost now. Unless you have some kind of ladder rung. Chickens always try to go to the highest spot and they usually get there by flapping.

I haven't noticed any more leaking and only the occasional gurgling sound, so it sounds a bit better.

I am assuming she was trying to roost, she had her feet on a cross bar of the shelf, and definitely was tangled up in it. She had caught her bad wing in the bars of the shelf, but the bathroom is right off the bedroom and I heard her pecking and struggling and went right in and was able to untangle her. She seemed ok and let me help her get out, so I think she was ok, but very lucky that I heard it.

I may try more feed mash this morning and see how she does. Yesterday I gave her around 1/4 cup or so of it both morning and night and I also gave her about a quarter of a really juicy, ripe pear and she ate everything.

We are definitely going to need to move her to the crate tonight or tomorrow to keep her from trying to get any higher as she feels better. She has been looking at the toilet and sink and I know she would like to get up on either and I really don't want her to try to get that high.

I was going over her a bit more when she got her injection last night and some of the smaller cuts are scabbed over and the scabs are starting to peel up. She seems to let me look a but more each day and things really look much better than I could have ever hoped for. I am still very guarded about her ultimate outcome though. I worry about her breaking the shoulder back open by movement or by picking at it or catching it on something.
