Hawk attack, my little hen is in shock

If it wasn't for my roosters my little hen would’ve been killed on the spot!
She’s a little bantam polish pullet. A hawk swooped down and looks like grabbed her by the head. My roosters was fighting the hawk as I was running out there. My coonhound got a hold of the hawk while I grabbed my hen.
She’s in the house now. She was completely limp with labored breathing and blood coming out of her mouth. I can’t SEE and wounds. I was dripping sugar water on her beak and she came around long enough to drink a syringe full. She’s sleeping now, breathing is regular and the bleeding has stopped. Is there anything else I should be doing?? She’s in a dark bedroom nice and cool, 76 degrees. I’m giving her sugar water and electrolytes. She drinks and then sleeps. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to shear about your chicken. Hawks can be so devastating. She will need to be kept warm for shock recovery. When she stabilizes, you will need to check her whole body over very well for injuries.

It sounds like you’re doing everything you can right now. Keep pushing fluids. Do you have electrolytes you can mix up? You can also google a simple homemade one.

So glad that you and the rooster and coonhound saved her life. Hawks can hit them so hard to cause internal injuries. I hope that her neck is okay, and that she didn’t suffer a head injury. I would keep her quiet until she is out of shock, and continue to offer fluids and then some mushy wet chicken feed and cooked egg later. I lost my half blind polish hen a few years ago when 2 hawks got together and decapitated her. Let us know how she gets along.

Yes I’ve got nutri drench, I think it’s electrolytes for chicks. I’m giving her that with her sugar water.

I worry about internal injuries, I’m hoping that’s not the case. I’m just leaving her be at the moment. Just pushing water.
Hawks are awful. I’ve got 6 roosters, huge roosters. Did the hawk go after one them? Nope. The little bantam polish, who was just sun bathing. It breaks my heart. I’m sorry about your little hen

Her right eye is swollen shut and she has plenty of lacerations. He said to keep doing what I’m doing and she should recover. He said since she survived the initial attack and the shock afterwards, she’s obviously a fighter.

Pooor baby! I’m so glad she got a good report from the vet. Hopefully she’s made it past the hardest part. Good job caring for her, hang in there perhaps with a lot of love, rest and spoiling she will perk up the next few days.

Oh she’s definitely got the TLC going on. She’s so pitiful it’s heartbreaking. Cross your fingers for a fast recovery.
