Hawk Attack......Should we just put her down???

Yogurt.....we can do that! I'll research feeding an injured chicken today and feed her tonight. I'm not sure about pulling on her waddle as it was partially skinned in some areas. I think that would be painful. But hopefully like last night she beats me to the punch because I am not really interested in medical procedures for feeding although I'll do what I have to do for the kids. I do think it will need to be a nearly liquid meal like yogurt though. We tried watermelon last night and there was no interest at all. What about runny scrambled eggs???? I just don't see her eating solids yet.

Thanks for the continued advise everyone.

Has pain been managed,is she being kept warm? She needs food/fluids,otherwise she will not survive. No food,no energy for her body to heal.

We are going to start aspirin tonight. I was nervous about blood thinning. But she is not eating anything at all. We've tried yogurt and eggs. I think I'm going to have to get a little more invasive about it tonight before her bed. We also have some other possible issues......photos coming. I'm concerned about infection and that I may be losing control of the situation .......as if I ever really had it.

More questions......with the aspirin mixed at 5 tabs per gallon of water how do I know if she's getting enough to help. She's not exactly setting the world on fire with her drinking yet. Its tough just to get enough to keep her going.

Dang what a fiasco that was! Once we got it all sorted out (2 person job) we ended up getting about 5 ML of yogurt into her and about 1/4 of a scrambled egg. That was enough for today I suppose. Now that we have it sorted out tomorrow we will go for at least a hole egg and 15-20 ML of yogurt. Boy that was tough for a first time though while not really being able to grab her head much.. Still VERY unsure about the condition of wound though.

You can use Dakins solution(basically diluted bleach)or vetericyn(safe to use around eyes/nose/etc) I would put her on antibiotics that wound is infected. Is any skull actually showing? I use one 325mg aspirin per gallon of water, this work out to approx 25mg per lb of body weight.

Should you choose to use antibiotics, the first impulse is to go with a water soluble one for ease of use. Don't. Pen G injectible is the antibiotic of choice on wounds. It can be picked up at your local ag store along with syringes. Very user friendly. Very effective.

I think you may be able to clean this wound out without using antibiotics, though. Beekissed has a lot of experience. I would be willing to put my bird's life in the hands of Beekissed. May be you try the castor oil route. I have never used it myself, but intend to try the next time I have a nasty wound (hopefully far, far into the future).
