A.) For the girls that have gone into the woods... can you actually find them? If so entice them back with treats and sooth and pet them if you can. Put them in their run, they will calm after a while.
B.) Please send images of the run.. were the birds free-ranging at the time of the attack?

They will get over it, just give them some time. Since they witnessed one of their flock mates being attacked, they will remember that and they will be extra wary in the future.

thank you for replying;they returned before dark that day. Now,they;re afraid to even go into their own, which is attached to coop.they act hypersensitive, hide in corners in the coop, they fluff their feathers constantly! How can I help them get over the shock..they are( and me too) are devastated!

I know this sounds harsh but they will get over it! Make sure to put in extra measures to protect against hawks.

Thank you they do Free range, but not unsupervised,a few weeks ago I went face to face with this hawk,he had one of my girls pinned in my woods, thank God my girl was squawking at the top of her lungs,I ran in and scared the hawk and he let go..I was probably 3 or 4 feet away,I screamed for my girl to run,she ran right to me and I scooped her up and ran...I was like an insane chicken momma...I know, everyone loves chicken...I feel that I owe my girls health and happiness..they didn't ask to come live with me!
