My chicken was attacked by hawk. Neck is ripped open. Is it better to net alone or should I sew skin together. Skin is loose and easy drawn together. Vet is not an option. I have sprayed antiseptic spray on it. She is in shock and if she lives I want to give her the best chance. Thanks for your time.

Can you send a photo of it?

No, I'm alone. It is open and you can see entire chicken neck. Neck is not injured. Jus skin is torn all the down.

Its not possible she could heal by herself? If so that would be my option, you could sew it up, your chicken might put up a mighty fight though.

I have seen a lot of wounds and I have yet to sew anything. Bandage if necessary but mainly keep it clean and keep some antiseptic on it. Neosporin works well.

Thank you, I will try to fix her. She is in shock and may not make it anyway. I just want to give her the best chance possible to recover.

It is open about 3 inches. I did get to talk to vet and said to flush it, use antseptic/ antibiotic on it, bandage it. Give her fluids if she doesn't eat or drink. It can heal on its own if it stays clean. Thank you all. I was in a panic. I now am worried about my cat and small dog being out. It was a big hawk.

Start by giving her some sugar water for shock. Dissolve 1 tsp sugar in 1 c water and give her that. This is very important. Then wash the wound with sterile saline or Hibiclens, and coat it with triple antibiotic. No need to wrap or stitch. Wash and use the antibiotic twice daily till healed. Protect from flies.
