Dear all,

One of my four Easter-Eggers was attacked by a red-tailed hawk on Monday. My wife was home for MLK day and heard her screaming, and was able to drive the hawk off before the chicken was killed. We Neosporined the wounds, brought her inside to keep her warm, and she's now on the mend—with one exception.

Although her clucks used to be loud and, well, cranky, she now whines piteously instead. She seems to be happy, she seems not to be in pain, and she's plenty warm. She has water, plentiful food, and hot-and-cold running pomegranate seeds and garlic. I wonder if the issue is just that she's hoarse from screaming so loudly? Regardless, will she get better, and is there anything I can do to help?

Thanks for the advice,

Jed.

If she's eating and drinking and pooping well, and you're still applying the neosporin at least once a day, I wouldn't worry about her voice. She's in a different environment. Maybe she likes the 1:1 attention and you're now meeting her 'happy' side :)
