Hawk attacks

Pigeon fanciers, myself included, encourage crows to stay around by feeding them. The only problem is that although they will attack redtails all year long, they will only attack Cooper's hawks when they are nesting. I once had a nesting pair with their extended family (previous years young) living in the white pines behind my house. When they were there, I could free loft (like free ranging) my pigeons. They were killed off by the West Nile virus 6 or 7 years ago and no new crows have taken up residence.

I get to fly pigeons maybe 5 months out of the year without significant losses.
