harming it I think is against the law. hawks are territorial I am not sure what I would do you can hang shinny things and stuff like that but that wont get rid of it. Maybe call local animal control and ask if there is anything you can do as it is a danger to live stock.

Hey! What about those motion sensitive cat deterrent sprinklers? Put one on top of the run and post a game cam...and Presto! Instant amusement, no harming the hawk and the hens will be safe! If you do this, you gotta post pics.

Good luck, I have had a pair hanging around all fall. They usually nest in our trees. Then we occasionally see a Bald Eagle gliding around the area. This week one came and perched right in the tree behind the house. I am sure it was looking for a little chicken sushi, but the chooks were still in their coops. He flew off when we came out to get in the car. The chickens, as stupid as they are, know enough to run and hide when the raptors start hanging around.

I've had temporary luck with hanging Mylar ribbon everywhere.

Somewhere recently, I seem to recall reading that it's a 50 or 60 K fine for shooting a raptor(?).

OK attract crows, a murder of crows will attack and even kill a hawk, but I understand Fish and Wildlife have warrants issued for the crows. The crows will take chicks though, so it is not a complete win. Large dogs deter hawks, they are not just a predator but also prey. String clothes line to break the hawks dive, white works the best. Be and look aggressive when hawks are circling, yell wave arms jump up and down. I have more problems with tree rats killing chicks than hawks or even crows. Wish the hawks would take the tree rats away.

BTW it may be a crime to harbor a fugitive crow that has harassed a hawk so be careful who you tell or seen feeding crows.

I have a huge plastic owl I put on top of the cage that I got at the feed store. Hawks won't go near an owl. They have one's that the head turns on a motion detector too. You have to move it every 3 days.
