Hawk in my chicken pen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote:
it got in through the pen door that was only open wide enough for the chickens to get in and out...I have no idea how it manuevered itself in...must have been reaaaaallly hungry

Haha! Wow those guys are insatiable! I have issues with
them at my house.
Sucks for him he didn't even get anything to eat!
Can you relocate them where you live or is that a big no no

I assume you it got out by now, if not why not just pull some off the chicken wire off the coop so it can fly away? It would be easy enought to re attach it after the hawk is gone.

Pesonlly I think Hawks and other birds of prey are the WORST predators for us back yard chicken farmers. One year I lost 8 to a Sharpshinned Hawk (over a 2 week period)

Do you know what type of hawk it is? It's beautiful, but I'm sorry it got one of your chickens. We've had a Cooper's hawk swooping over the chickens a few times in the past week. I reinforced the netting over the whole area today when I saw it right outside the window. It's a small hawk - I don't think it could take down one of our big fat EEs....
BTW - we are in Framingham MA - Hi Neighbor!

Whatever you do...do NOT underestimate hawks..we lost a lot of our flock this summer from hawks. They even got our turkey (she was a little bigger than our full grown chickens) and our peacock (same size) and we never thought it could carry either one. But it did. Its a red tail hawk.
