Hawk IN THE RUN! Pics added Post #12-another injury?

You have just confirmed my biggest fear. I wondered if a hawk would be able to see the netting and be afraid to dive in.
I think my saving grace has been the fact that the run is sandwiched between 2 building. From the air it must look tight.
Also our dog stays near the coop/run all the time and is tied there at night, so maybe that helps.
Sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing.

I may take some extra precautions.

I'm afraid there was an injury to one of my other girls during the attack. Here is my EE. Her left wing is drooping. I noticed it yesterday when I checked them all over, but she was flapping and flying fine, and didn't act like it bothered her. I'm worried since it is still droopy. What do you think?

just know that there is no way for them to know if you kill a hawk or not.... if you shoot it in your backyard and burry it on the spot.... nothing will happen. Unless you live in an urban area.

LMAO or blab about your intent and/or action on a public forum. Government officials read too. hahahahahaha IRS agents love watching EBay and Game Wardens love watching animal forums.

OP that wing could be dislocated or merely just a pulled tendon or such and sore. feel the joint area near the body and see if you feel anything amiss or that does not feel right. Use the other wing joint area for comparison. It will heal either way but whether it heals to normal form is dependent on the type of injury. She should be fine in the end result. I am sorry you lost your SS girl.

Could you put the injured hen in a cage inside for a few days? I have a large pet cage and dog pen to house injured birds.

you might be unlucky enough to kill one with a tracker inserted.... best you know your local law, we are permitted to kill any chicken bothering hawk where we are..... but every country/ area have different set of rules..

I think your EE will be fine, I would not separate her unless you notice the other girls picking on her- she will probably heal up quickly. You can check her wing to see if it is dislocated or broken- and you may be able to wrap it up against her body- but she may pull the wrapping off. Good luck
