That is too cute! I got a kick out of your picture. I was just in my yard the other day, sitting with my chickens and ducks as they were pecking around, and a vulture went overhead. Suddenly everyone got real quiet, so I looked up to see what had made them all fall silent, and what do I see but 28+ birds, all frozen where they stood around the yard, with their heads cocked up at the sky. If my camera wasn't broken I'd have definitely snapped a few pics of that moment! They knew the bird wasn't a threat and after a few moments they returned to foraging, but it was funny to watch them. I have bantam Orpie boys in my brooder now and your pic gave me an idea of what I'll be seeing in just a few more weeks too! Love it!
LOL! too funny! I have hawk issues where I live no ratcoons, no other predators but dogs but I have MAJOR hawk issues. When I let the chickens out I have to stand guard and scream and wave my arms when I see a hawk so they don't come near and my dad parked his trailer near the coop and they all hide under it when I scream or they see a bird of any sort. I had one of my silkies taken up right infront of my eyes but I chased the hawk down and got her back amazingly unharmed. I looked up in the sky yesterday and counted 11 hawks from where I was standing.

Dang girl! That really is a problem!! Sometimes I almost think it's too bad that hawks are protected.
Here in Washington state, you can kill any animal, wild or domestic that threatens or attacks your livestock, including chickens, on your property. Everything but Hawks (or any other bird of prey). But, then I remind myself that it isn't the Hawks fault. They're just doing what nature intended. But, why oh why do they have to follow instinct on our beloved feathered friends?
Love the pic by the way Suellyn!! Sure hope you'll post some pics of when they're all grown up. I'm sure they're going to be very handsome boys!
