Hawk on our backyard fence!

I'll fire up the grill for the unfortunate accident.

Just kidding! I would never hurt an animal

You can try hanging the big hawk decoys from poles around the pasture. The are kind of like kites and move in the wind

Mylar is the shiny ribbon or tissue, usually a color on one side and silver on the other. Think big silver party baloons. It's the same stuff.

also make sure that your chickens have plenty of cover (bushes, shrubs) to hide in and keep your coop doors open that they could run into when something gets after them.

Good idea. I'll look for something like that to hang. They have 2 bushes in the backyard that they always hide in. The leghorn was on the porch hiding behind some bricks and the EE was in the rose bush. At least they were smart enough to hide.

Maybe I'll try Lowe's or some gardening store for something to hang up.

I'm going to try the cd thing myself (I saw someone on the Whatchagot Swap makes them!). My chickens aren't even outside yet and I hear hawks ALL day long

Our run will be completely enclosed, but you never know... Scary.

It's definitely a good thing to do. I've heard of hawks sitting on top of enclosed runs and deviling the heck out of the chickens inside the run. The person who I saw hang to cd's actually hangs them from the top of her run so the hawks will leave the chickens that are in the run alone.

We had a migratory hawk kill one of mine so on the way down they stop and back up they stop to see if they can get on. Most of our birds are free ranged in the yard. The only thing you can do is shoot fire crackers at them, that is the only way to detour them away. Hope you have good luck keeping them away
