I was wondering if anybody knows the best way to prevent hawks from killing chickens? Today I walked in my backyard to find a hawk on top of my 1 month old white polish and I am very devastated. In this month I have lost 2 of my favorite chickens that meant the world to me and I have an owl decoy but that isn't good enough to keep the hawks away. I would appreciate if anyone has any recommendations.

Ya got me. My girls scatter during the day and hide under bushes, behind the shed, under tables. I do have hawks, but so far, only one grown hen and one small chick have perished in 6 years. I have heard of putting those predator lights on the coop for night protection, but do not have a clue about daytime aerial defense. Interestingly enough, bluejays are the best at announcing a hawk in the area, so I listen for them to start screaming and go outside to check. If too many (I have had as many as 5 in my tree) I lock the girls in the run.

Do you have a run for your chickens? If so please paste photos.
