(i have always wanted to be the first to do that)

I have crows that fly over chasing the hawks some times but the nieghbors hate them becasue they do somthing to his lawn i dunno what but he hates them and im afraid the crows will go after my chicks and ducklings . When i was in florida once a crow chased a mother mallard (that would make a good screan name on here Mother-Mallard , No ? ) and grabbed it and flew away with it , only to drop it ont the pavement and kill it . It was horrible and ever since then i dont like crows

Somebody asked about crows, and about "harrassing" birds of prey.

The law is the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. It protects all native birds from being killed, harmed, or harrassed. Penalties can include fines up to $15,000, and even jail time. The only resident birds that are NOT protected by the act are non-native species -- specifically pigeons, English sparrows, and starlings.

That said -- I don't think anyone would object too strenuously about you hosing that hawk off your barn.

Also, if a bird is preying on your livestock, it *is* possible to get a permit to kill it. You have to talk to your local wildlife officials about that.

The strange thing is I love to see the raptors flying...I just wish I had a no fly zone!
I allowed the 5 layers and 4 bantams out while I was right there, within a few minutes, this 4 foot wing spanned Chicken Hawk came out of the sun!!! I only noticed him when I squinted my eyes! Running up to the girls, the little ones went in, the big girls went in single file. No one was the wiser of the hawk, that had landed in a tree to watch them.

Once you have a hawk, you will always have to keep them in under covered pen. Its a shame we have to deal with that, but its also part of nature.
