I sit in my back yard quite a bit. Lately there has bee a hawk stalking my yard bird. The funny thing, is I have roosters EVERYWHERE! The one I THOUGHT would be aggressive towards outside birds, isn't.
When this hawk swooped, my mean, stink eye giving, chasing the dog, growling, Mr Redd does a 360 and paddled those legs as fast as he could straight for the shed. Not that he EVER goes in tjere, BUT, it was the closest roof lol.
When the hawk was gone, Mr Redd came strutting out making his big bad chicken cluck. I almost DIED laughing. Thankfully, I also have a BO roo that took care of my (his ) girls

Fire that rooster!

Silly thing! Mine raises alarm for every large bird he sees coming, just in case.

My teeny cochin roo assisted my BIG BO roo eith alarms and getting the others to a bush to hide under. I think it almost time to eat Mr Redd

A good rooster who watches for predators is worth his weight in gold. I've learned the different alarm calls of my rooster, so when I hear him I know whether to look up for hawks or over the pasture for mongoose/cats. Very handy!

My BO has attempted to charge a hawk before. The red one just jumped, twirled around like a ballerina and had those legs spinning faster than car wheels. Then after all was over, comes strutting out like nothing happened. I couldn't do anything BUT laugh

O.K. Keep him for entertainment value then

Silly thing. My boy charged a mongoose once. Mongoose took one look at this crazy chicken and ran!
