I hate to disappoint, but yes hawks will fly under a deck, trees, etc. Some hawks have actually become adept at chasing down prey on foot and hunting in tight spaces.

Check out this video:

wow those are some devoted hawks

Second video link was bad, but that first one was AMAZING! I will never let my chickens out! I was considering getting fake fur and making a great big bobble head fake dog since my german shepherd is a spoiled girl who prefers air conditioning...

In this neck of the woods we've got hawks abounding too. In honesty I've only heard of one chicken owner lose a bird to one and it was a full grown hen! With my girls I was on the back deck in awe watching this bird of prey dive bomb right toward me when a "duh" moment hit and in two bounds was past the gate waving arms making the hawk turn just over our neighbors roof pitch and swing an arc down over the river bank. And I keep tasty easy to catch young pullets about.

Hawks wont change their nest once settled and hunt from there. Unless you've a nest next to your house it's just an easy drive through lunch they see while flying like we do about noon in our car and see golden arches.
