I had a nice supply of hay bales sitting in the field that my coop is in. The bales have been sold so I no longer have any until the next cut. Could I just use green hay that hasn`t been dried? I don't want to spend any money on pine bedding or anything like that.

Look under your power grass mower's frame after mowing a lawn ... eyeball the solid grass residue... then decide if it will be of much use with added chicken exrement.

Well, you've gotta be real careful with hay. It's because it will mold very easily, so you've gotta change it up often. Mold can give chickens a respiratory problem. So, I would only use dried hay. I used some hay before because I got 35 bales for $1.00 each, and that was a real good deal, but I could see what they were talking about. Most people use either straw or wood shavings.
