Hay as brooder bedding?

I also like to bring in weeds/sod plugs so they can start pecking in the dirt from the beginning.

I was actually given hay for my baby chicks, was told its better than wood chips for them. Mine are currently 1 week old, one hatched last Thursday, the other last Friday. They like the hay and get around fine in it.
